Your Training Journey
Every dog is different, so every training plan is tailored to you.
Some families only need one or two sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support. This is a typical training journey, designed to help you and your dog build lasting skills together.
Assessment & Strategy
Our first session is all about understanding both you and your dog.
We’ll explore your dog’s history, daily routine, exercise, enrichment, sleep, diet and any behaviours you’d like to improve.
I’ll also learn about your family’s lifestyle, goals and what success looks like to you.
Together we’ll identify the biggest opportunities for change and make practical recommendations you can begin using straight away.
This may include routine adjustments, enrichment ideas, management strategies and introducing your first training exercises.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of why your dog behaves the way they do, along with simple, achievable steps to get started.
Building New Skills
Now the foundations are in place, we’ll begin focused training.
Whether your goal is recall, loose lead walking, confidence building, impulse control or everyday manners, every exercise is chosen specifically for your dog and your goals.
You’ll learn not only what to teach, but how to teach it confidently at home and on your walks.
Real-Life Practice
We’ll begin applying your dog’s new skills in the places you actually need them, helping both of you feel more confident around everyday distractions and situations.
The aim is for your training to become part of daily life, rather than something that only happens during our sessions.
Ongoing Support
Some families achieve their goals after just a couple of sessions, while others choose ongoing coaching as their dog develops or new challenges arise.
There’s no fixed programme and no pressure. We’ll simply work together for as long as you need me, celebrating progress every step of the way.
Why choose Jurassic Tails?
Dog training isn’t just about teaching behaviours.
It’s about helping you understand your dog, building lasting skills and enjoying life together.
Every recommendation I make is based on modern, ethical training methods and tailored to you & your individual dog.
Science-Led & Ethical
My training is based on modern behavioural science and positive reinforcement.
No intimidation, punishment or outdated dominance theories, just practical, ethical methods designed to help dogs learn with confidence.
Tailored To You
Every dog & their human is different, so every training plan is personalised.
Together we’ll focus on your goals, your dog’s needs and practical solutions that work for your lifestyle.
Real-Life Results
Training isn’t just for the classroom. Where appropriate, we’ll practise in real-world environments so your dog’s new skills become part of everyday life.
Beyond Behaviour
Many behaviour challenges begin with unmet needs rather than disobedience.
We’ll look at enrichment, routine, sleep, emotional wellbeing and opportunities for natural behaviours alongside practical training.
Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions? Here are some questions I’m asked most often about my private dog training sessions
How many sessions will my dog need/ How long will it take?
Every dog is different.
Some families achieve their goals after just 1 of session & their own practice, while others benefit from further support.
We’ll discuss your dog’s needs during the initial consultation and agree on the best approach together.
Where do private training sessions take place?
Sessions take place where they’re most useful for you and your dog.
This might be at your home, in your local area, my private training field or another suitable real-world environment, depending on what we’re working on.
Can the whole family attend?
Absolutely!
We can work together in person, with you and your family involved in the training and learning how to support your dog.
Alternatively, I can take the lead through day training, where I work directly with your dog to do the training.
We’ll then have handover sessions where I show you what we’ve worked on and how to maintain and build those skills at home.
We’ll discuss which approach is likely to work best for you, your dog and your goals.
Do you use treats?
Yes, but treats are just one of many reinforcers I use.
Depending on the dog and what we’re working on, I may use food, play, toys, sniffing, access to the environment, predatory motor pattern activities and engagement with me as rewards.
The aim is to understand what genuinely motivates each individual dog and use those things strategically to make learning effective and meaningful.
Can you help rescue dogs?
Yes.
I also foster rescue dogs through Poppy’s Pals Rescue, so I have experience of not only training rescue dogs but living alongside them as they settle into a home, adapt to new routines and build confidence.
Every dog is an individual, so training is tailored to their history, needs and current confidence.
Do you use slip leads, prong collars or e-collars?
No. My training is reward-based and grounded in modern behavioural science.
I focus on helping dogs learn through clear communication, appropriate reinforcement using food, toys, play & their instincts to build confidence rather than using fear, intimidation or aversive equipment.
What if I'm not sure whether private training is right for my dog?
